Title IX Celebrating 50 years

Celebrating Title IX's Golden Anniversary

What is Title IX?

On June 23, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed Title IX of the Education Amendments into law. Just 37 words in length, Title IX has been the catalyst for seismic evolution and progress across college sports that provides access and opportunity regardless of gender.

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
